Pro-Retinol

Pro-Retinol is an active ingredient commonly found in anti-wrinkle, acne, and skin lightening products.

Retinol is a natural form derived from Vitamin A which is found in skin cells. It is considered to be an ideal ingredient for promoting skin’s natural rejuvenation, antibacterial as well as photo protecting properties.

An increase in collagen production enhances the wound healing process, smoothens the skin, and reduces wrinkle formation. A decrease in tyrosine activity helps to reduce the production of melanin, which as a result, promotes skin’s brightening effect. The topical application of retinol in skincare products also shows antioxidant effects that help to protect the skin from the formation of free radicals that are responsible for cell damage. This helps to slow down the formation of premature wrinkles and fine lines.

Pro-retinol reacts with skin enzymes to produce retinoic acid, which is the active ingredient used in anti-acne skincare products. In the skin, pro-retinol binds to cell receptors responsible for regulating tyrosinase activity and collagen synthesis: tyrosine activity tends to decrease, while collagen synthesis tends to increase. As a result, the production of melanin decreases.

Pro-retinol is able to penetrate through the layer of upper epidermis until it reaches the stratum basale where it targets immature keratinocytes, which enhances the growth and development and promotes skin rejuvenation.

There are no age restrictions for using the active ingredient of pro-retinol in the skincare products. It is recommended to use it daily. The improvements are usually seen after 3-6 months of constant usage and should be continued to use on a daily basis for achieving effective results and long-lasting effects.
